Aurora is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Lisa Spoden to its Board of Directors.  As a leading expert in the health care field, Dr. Spoden brings an added dimension to the Board.  In addition to helping create strategic opportunities for student veterans looking to enter the healthcare industry, she possesses a unique insight into the commercial systems that help care for our veteran population as well.

Dr. Spoden has been a practicing health care executive for over 20 years. Her strategic planning and program development expertise is coupled with practical management know-how, having previously worked as vice president of large hospital and health care systems. She also has had planning, marketing, and operations responsibilities within health care provider organizations, and has served as a medical group practice administrator for both primary care and multi-specialty groups.

In addition to Aurora, Dr. Spoden is involved with multiple philanthropic organizations. She has served on many boards and task forces, including National Hospice Organization (NHO) (as managed care committee chairperson), NHO’s End-of-Life Task Force, the Medicare Benefit Implementation Task Force, and Journey’s End: A Kentucky Partnership to Improve End-of-Life Care Coalition (as chairperson). Dr. Spoden also serves on the Beethoven Found Board of Directors and has already helped the organization to adopt Aurora as one of its official causes for its “Wounded Warrior” program (for more information on Beethoven Found, please go towww.beethovenfound.org ).  Throughout her philanthropic work, she has led major fundraisers successfully, and she will assist Aurora in this capacity as well.

She holds a Ph.D. from Columbus University, and a master’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University in Health Services Administration with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the College of St. Benedict. Dr. Spoden currently serves as Senior Vice President of Development at Strategic Health Care.

“Aurora is incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Spoden serve on its Board as she not only has a vested interest in serving our returning heroes as they transition into higher education, but has a unique skill set that will without doubt open many doors for student veterans interested in the health care industry,” stated Aurora Chairman and President, Tom DeWitt. Dr. Spoden was officially welcomed to the Board of Directors during its meeting on June 5, 2012.
